Saratoga Warrior is set to run on Tuesday, Sept. 9 in race 7, a first-level allowance event at Finger Lakes. He will be #2 in a field of 8 runners. Keiber Coa retains the mount for trainer Mike Ferraro. Post time is set for 3:54 p.m. ET.

This will be your son of Volatile’s second start off of an extended layoff after he was most recently third under identical race conditions over a sloppy surface. He did get a touch tired that day and his rider believed that he needed the run, so with that in mind we are hopeful for improvement this time around. Best of luck to all owners!

More on the competition:

#1 Caddilacjoe: Was a runaway winner last time out when breaking his maiden en route to earning an 83 Beyer figure—a very high number for a Finger Lakes maiden race. He is one of the main speeds in the race and is drawn down inside, which should favor him. If that figure holds up he would trounce this group, however it might be a touch inflated and the bounce is always a possibility.

#3 Allofasuddenlee: Makes his first start off the claim. He was a winner in that recent $11K claiming event and will be stepping up to allowance company this time.

#4 Swift Bank: Has hit the board in all of his prior starts, which have all come at Finger Lakes. Those three starts came for a different barn, however, and he will switch into a barn that is 0-for-14 with horses making their barn debut. With that being said, this gelding does look to be able to contend in this spot.

#5 Gray Haired Gus: Though he sports a win two starts back, his figures have slid a bit as of late and one has to question his form. He is a deep closer who is at a disadvantage over a track that typical favors forwardly placed horses.

#6 Two Thirty A.M.: One of the main speeds in this group who will be cutting back to a sprint distance following a tiring 5th place finish last time out. He should not be loose on the lead in here and seems to be a bit of a cheap speed horse who will fade late.

#7 Sobieski: Returns to Finger Lakes having competed exclusively on the NYRA circuit in 2025. Was most recently well beaten against $32K claiming company at Saratoga.

#8 Billy At the Gate: Another speed horse, though he does not look to be as fast as some of the others in here. Finished 2nd at the level last time out ahead of Saratoga Warrior.

Saratoga Warrior healed up well from his gelding procedure and had a productive month of training down in Florida. He was ready to head back to the track, so we went ahead and sent him up to Finger Lakes last week to join the barn of perennial leading local trainer M. Anthony Ferraro, who goes by Mike. As previously discussed, the reason for a circuit change was made in an effort to give him the best chance to be productive against easier competition. He did not breeze on the farm before he left, but was just about ready to and we’d expect to see a published work from him up there pretty soon.

Saratoga Warrior shipped down to Two Springs in Ocala, FL per our previous update. Upon arrival at the farm, additional diagnostics were performed and a small osteochondroma spike (boney outgrowth) was discovered on the back side of his right distal radius (forearm) just above the knee, which was impacting the surrounding soft tissue and explains the inflammation (click here for a diagram).

He underwent successful surgery today at Ocala Equine Hospital to remove the osteochondroma and clean up the surrounding tissue.

His prognosis for returning to 100% soundness is very good.

He will be on stall rest with hand-walking for the next 30 days and at that point will be rechecked with the hopes of graduating to small paddock turnout.

This setback will be a bit longer than previously reported, but a full reset may very well do him some good.
