Chasing Time was reexamined Tuesday by Dr. Wes Sutter of Kentucky Equine Hospital. The examination results were exactly what we had hoped for. The cortical fissure on Chasing Time’s right front fetlock is healing and the line is no longer visible. He can now move over to paddock turnout and start using the walker for the next 30-45 days. Before officially moving over to the paddock he will be turned out in a round pen to help his transition. Pending all goes well over the next several weeks, he could then begin to pick up a light jog in addition to his turnout time.
We checked in on Chasing Time this afternoon at Silver Springs and he was very alert and feeling full of himself.
He will be re-examined around the middle of September.
Chasing Time has adjusted well during his first week at Silver Springs. As previously reported, he will receive 30 days of stall rest along with the addition of daily hand walking.
We will continue to report his progress while recovering.
Chasing Time had his first work back since his last start and breezed five furlongs in 1:00.60 on Monday at Ellis Park. This sets us up perfectly to get one more work, likely a maintenance one, before his next start on August 14th.
Rafael Bejarano has accepted the mount for Chasing Time’s next start in the Ellis Park Derby.

Outside of stakes entry and starter fees you’ll notice race expenses were slightly higher for this race as it is customary to pay for a portion of the jockey and trainer’s travel expenses for Graded Stakes when they are coming in from out of town. Expenses are divided amongst the different owners those connections represent during the race card. For example, if a trainer had four different horses and owners, each would bear 1/4th of the expense.
Chasing Time ran a hard and valiant second today at Ellis Park behind upset winner Friar Laurence who stopped the clock in a very swift 1:22 in the seven-furlong allowance race contested over a sloppy track.
After breaking a step slowly Chasing Time was hustled up the rail by Rafael Bejarano and set fractions of 22.34 and 44.70 seconds for the quarter and half mile splits and by the time Chasing Time hit three-quarters in 1:09.18, Friar Laurence who was sitting a few lengths behind Chasing Time on the backstretch had all the momentum and drew away in the stretch to win by 2 ½ lengths at the end. After the race, trainer Steve Asmussen said being down on the rail was not the place to be today with all the water piling up. Unfortunately, its where we drew and given Chasing Time’s break and preferred running style there really wasn’t much that could be done to get him out of that spot.
We’ll check back in with Steve in the coming days to see how Chasing Time came out of the race and where we’ll head from here.
Chasing Time breezed a half-mile at Belmont Park this morning in 49.75 seconds. As of right now, the plan is still to target the Ellis Park allowance race on July 17th. Entries will be taken on July 14th.
Chasing Time had his first work back at Belmont Park since the Woody Stephens. He breezed a half-mile in 52.20 seconds, which the slower time was expected for his first work back.
Due to the heat in Kentucky, Chasing Time will remain at Belmont Park for now before shipping to Kentucky ahead of a race.
Our racing team and trainer Steve Asmussen have begun discussing next race options for Chasing Time. After weighing what’s available in the current condition books, we identified a potential soft target for Chasing Time, an allowance race for 3-year-olds, non-winners of three races at Ellis Park on July 17th, going seven furlongs. If we run here, it gives Chasing Time five weeks in between races, plus the option to run on Lasix at Ellis Park, which will be an added benefit. When plans are finalized we will update the colt’s partners.
