{"id":7033,"date":"2025-09-08T10:17:49","date_gmt":"2025-09-08T10:17:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/18.236.35.81\/fincalarosina\/?p=7033"},"modified":"2025-09-08T10:17:49","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T10:17:49","slug":"seize-the-grey-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/18.236.35.81\/fincalarosina\/seize-the-grey-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Seize the Grey Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>*Private and confidential*<\/p>\n<p>Gainesway recently shared with us some more information on how Seize the Grey\u2019s first breeding season went.<\/p>\n<p>In all, he was bred to 196 mares, with 174 reported in foal\u2014that\u2019s an 89% in-foal rate, which is considered very good.<\/p>\n<p>The average stud fee per contract was $29,500 (it\u2019s standard\/common in the industry for breeders to sometimes negotiate slight discounts on the advertised stud fee, particularly for mares who are most appealing to add to the stallion\u2019s book). The vast majority of those contracts were under stands and nurses terms\u2014which is also standard\u2014so stud fees will not be due on those foals until 2026 when they are born (owners of mares who are sold in foal this year will generally have to pay those stud fees before the mare is sold). Note that some of those breedings were also done on stallion share seasons for which stud fees will not be due.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the long list of noteworthy mares that Seize the Grey was bred to include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Accommodate Eva (Munnings), a fresh-off-the-track multiple stakes-winning earner of $211K<\/li>\n<li>Athenian Beauty (Corinthian), dam of this year\u2019s G3 Southwest S. winner Speed King<\/li>\n<li>Chubby Star (Malibu Moon), the stakes-placed dam of MRH Seize the Grey Broodmare Band member Natural Beauty<\/li>\n<li>The previously mentioned two-time champion female sprinter and $6-million seller Goodnight Olive<\/li>\n<li>Lady Pewitt (Orientate), dam of champion 2-year-old filly Jaywalk (by Unbridled\u2019s Song stallion Cross Traffic)<\/li>\n<li>Marilyn Monroan (Tapit), dam of $1.7-million earner and MGSW Somelikeithotbrown<\/li>\n<li>Quickest (Forest Wildcat), dam of Grade 1 winner Callback and two other stakes horses<\/li>\n<li>Reachfortheheavens (Pulpit), dam of MG1SW Real Solution and two other stakes horses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The catalog for the Keeneland November sale typically comes out around Oct. 1, so it\u2019ll be interesting to see which mares in foal to Seize the Grey will be entered there and then of course see how the market receives them the following month.<\/p>\n<p>*Private and confidential*<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>*Private and confidential* Gainesway recently shared with us some more information on how Seize the Grey\u2019s first breeding season went.
