Trainer Kent Sweezey has reunited Carrothers with Antonio Gallardo, who piloted him to victory at Presque Isle Downs on Sept. 13th. The pairing is significant in that Carrothers can be tricky to ride and it is of benefit to have a jockey that has familiarity and has won aboard him in the saddle. As a horse who likes to run in the clear, his outside post position (9) should allow Gallardo to gauge what his inside rivals do after the break and he can adjust accordingly and, hopefully, put Carrothers in position for smooth sailing.<\/p>\n
The 4-year-old\u2019s career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 91, earned when he won on the Tapeta surface at Gulfstream Park earlier this year, is tops in this field.<\/p>\n

About the Competition (in post position order):<\/strong><\/p>\n Harrow (10-1)<\/strong>\u00a0is based at Presque Isle and owns two wins from seven starts on the synthetic surface. A win here might elude the gelding, but he is capable of earning a minor share as he is fairly consistent. A plus is that he will be ridden by the meet\u2019s runaway leader in the standings, Pablo Morales.<\/p>\n Woodchuck (15-1)<\/strong>\u00a0figures to be a among the early leaders. He\u2019s a winner of 2 races this year, but the waters are a tad deeper here and he\u2019s already been defeated at this condition on two occasions in his most recent starts.<\/p>\n Franz Josef (10-1)<\/strong>\u00a0is another in here with early speed and enters off a gate-to-wire win in a $25K claimer at tomorrow\u2019s distance. He\u2019s not a horse known for stringing together consecutive victories.<\/p>\n Heirloom Kitten (8-1)<\/strong>\u00a0tough trip in last when carried five-wide and just missed in a $25K claimer at Presque Isle going a mile. His closing kick could see him along for a share.<\/p>\n Whiskey Double (9-2)<\/strong>\u00a0lost as the favorite at this condition in his last at Presque Isle, but it was a wide trip that saw him pick up third place. With a better journey, this Into Mischief colt could be a player at the finish.<\/p>\n Colbaloaf (20-1)<\/strong>\u00a0was not a factor at double-digit odds with Antonio Gallardo aboard while sprinting in his last start in his synthetic debut. His turf form is much better.<\/p>\n A Cotswold Village (6-1)<\/strong>\u00a0is very consistent at Presque Isle where he has carved out a record of 5-5-3 in 13 starts. He has speed, but looks as if he is better suited to stalking and may be able to get that trip with some speed inside of him. Definitely capable of reaching the winner\u2019s circle.<\/p>\n Goodie Goomer (4-1)<\/strong>\u00a0seeks his third consecutive win in this spot and his fourth in 2022. Beyers this year for this local runner have been solid.
