Kanthari arrived back at Margaux farm last Thursday from Kentucky Equine Hospital and has settled in well. Dr. Wes Sutter from Kentucky Equine Hospital suspects that the cause of Kanthari’s lameness is a result of “Kissing Spine” disorder. Kissing Spine is caused when vertebrae are too close to one another and is most often found in Thoroughbreds and performance horses. The diagnosis, however, of Kissing Spine doesn’t always mean there is a cause to be overly concerned. The severity of each individual case varies greatly and in milder cases, a horse will show no sign of discomfort. Dr Sutter injected and blocked Kanthari’s dorsal spinal region. The lameness has improved and Kanthari moved much better following the treatment.<\/p>\n
As a result of this diagnosis, Kanthari will go on a walker for two weeks with side reins to encourage him to use his back and engage the muscles in his hind end without bearing any weight from a rider on his back. Once the two weeks of walking is complete, he will return to jogging under tack with a rider aboard. During this time, Margaux farm, the MyRacehorse Racing team and Dr. Sutter will work together to develop the best plan forward for Kanthari.<\/p>\n
